BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Here in "Fun Central", hundreds of colorful pamphlets are on display, showcasing smiling families, a famous mouse and beautiful landscapes.

The Information, Tickets and Travel office has a plethora of information and tickets for Team Barksdale members wanting to take advantage of local events, trips or out-of-state vacations.

"We provide local and national destination and entertainment tickets at discounted prices worldwide," said Mary Baker, Arts and Crafts and ITT manager.

For those wanting to take their families to Disney World in Florida or to the Melrose Plantation in Natchitoches, La., Baker is the one to call.

"It'll be a great savings if you go through us for your vacation or trip plans, I guarantee it," she said. "We have discounted tickets to major theme parks including Six Flags and Busch Gardens. We also provide information and day trips to the Christmas light celebration in Marshall, Texas and festivals in Minden, La. We have information on every trip imaginable in the states, including details for cruises and also offer trips overseas."

All Air Force ITT offices work with the Air Force Central Ticket Program which in turn works with representatives from numerous attractions and recreational events AF personnel want to visit to obtain the best discounts possible.

"Though I negotiate with local contractors and vendors for Team Barksdale, I'm also able to acquire tickets we don't have available here, from the Central Ticket Program," Baker said.

Tickets for larger attractions are always available, but some smaller venues or local trips need to be inquired about ahead of time to allow ITT to receive tickets from the AFCTP. The Army has a very large Morale, Welfare and Recreation program which turns out thousands of tickets our ITT also has access to, said Baker.

"Barksdale's peak for travel starts in March, for spring break and goes through August, when school starts for children," said Baker. "We've sold thousands of dollars in tickets during peak season, to hundreds of families at the lowest prices we can acquire. Even during off-season travel, we have received special tickets from the CenturyLink Center here and also tickets to see the Texas Rangers."

The ITT office is available for use by members who can access the base including Air Force and Army, whether active-duty, guard, reserve or civilian employees.

"Some venues do have specific requirements for using the tickets, such as providing your identification when handing in tickets," said Baker. "You may purchase tickets for two guests as well, but you're responsible for them on your ID, just as you would be when visiting the Base Exchange or commissary. The Disney Salute program does require the purchasing individual to be active-duty military, though they may bring up to six guests who are not active-duty. We give the specifics of ticket prices and trip information when you inquire within our office."

According to CNN.com, the United States is one of the top countries in the world with the least amount of vacation time. For more information on kicking back to relax or having a grandiose fun time, contact the Barksdale ITT office at 456-1865 or visit barksdaleservices.com.
